Yemanya - Textile Artist/Designer
An accomplished seamstress, Yemanya applies her skills to handmade dolls, quilts, beadwork, leatherwork and costuming for stage and film. Yemanya’s artwork has been shown in museums across California, such as the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, the Haggin and Wildlife Museum in Stockton, Nicodemus Historical Museum, as well costuming for a feature film (see film credits). She designs and crochets fabulous sweaters, crowns and clothing and models her own creations. A talented artist, her work has been described as “painting with thread”. Clients can order garments specially made to fit them.

Yemanya’s costumes have been seen in many plays and worn by musical groups, dance companies and international performers. When choreographing a performance, she creates all of the costuming for herself and her performers using rich fabrics and textures to enhance the production. Yemanya rarely wears anything other than her own designs. Her unique style and dedication to pride in one’s heritage and history is uplifting to all people of every nationality and her generous spirit bridges racial prejudices.
